Sometimes the most magical places aren’t found in faraway lands—they’re tucked away in your own hometown.

Here in Decatur, Texas, we have one of those hidden treasures: the Decatur Book Bus. Housed inside a beautifully transformed bus inspired by The Hobbit, it’s a place where stories seem to come alive before you ever open a book.

Whenever a family asks for location ideas, I usually send a list of eight to ten options based on the look and setting they have in mind. The LBJ Grasslands is almost always included, and more often than not, it is the location they choose.

There are some weddings that simply feel special from the moment you arrive. This weekend, I had the privilege of photographing one of those unforgettable celebrations at the beautiful NRS Event Center in Decatur, Texas.

If you’ve been dreaming about romantic waterfront portraits, an engagement session, anniversary photos, or simply something that feels elegant and different, this is an incredible location. Imagine the warm glow of sunset, sails filled with wind, polished wood beneath your feet, and timeless images that feel like they belong on the coast—even though you’re right here in North Texas.

The bride, a beloved widow, and the groom, a lifelong bachelor who had never been married, both found love in their eighties. It was a beautiful reminder that God is never finished writing our stories. No matter our age, His plans continue to unfold, often in ways we never imagined.

There is something special about photographing graduates at the University of Dallas. This was my second senior session on campus this year, and once again I was reminded why I enjoy returning to this beautiful Catholic university.

I’ve photographed sessions in the LBJ Grasslands in every season. Spring brings wildflowers, fall fills the trails with warm color, and every season has its own personality. This week was my first summer session of the year, and it reminded me why I love this location so much.

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was watching friendships form, seeing mothers encourage one another, and witnessing the joy that comes from being surrounded by others walking the same homeschooling journey. Homeschooling can sometimes feel like a lonely road, but events like this are a reminder that we are part of something much bigger.

While the Kimbell does not allow professional photography inside the museum galleries, the museum grounds offer plenty of beautiful architecture, clean lines, sculptures, and peaceful outdoor spaces that make a wonderful backdrop for portraits.

The evening left me hoping I’ll make my way back to Ball Knob Hill for more sessions in the future. Between the sweeping views, hidden trails, wildflowers scattered across the hillside, and rabbits darting through the grass, it felt like one of those places that is both peaceful and unforgettable.
