For Father’s Day this year, my husband and I went on a sunset dinner sail aboard the Fourth Watch with Black Watch Sailing on Lake Grapevine.

Growing up in Florida, I have always felt at home near the water. There’s just something about the sound of the waves, the breeze, and the peaceful rhythm of being on a boat that settles my soul.

The moment I saw the Fourth Watch, I was in love.
She is exactly what you imagine when someone says “classic sailboat.” Rich, gleaming wood. Brass polished to perfection. Every detail carefully maintained. Everywhere my eyes landed, there was something beautiful to admire. She isn’t just a boat—she has a personality.

Captain Dave may have been my favorite part of the evening.
He reminded me of a real-life Indiana Jones. Adventurous, fascinating, an archaeologist full of stories, and clearly someone who has lived a life worth listening to. You can tell immediately that sailing isn’t simply something he does—it’s part of who he is. His passion for the Fourth Watch and for creating memorable experiences is contagious. The yacht itself is a Ted Hood-designed Bristol 47.7 Global Cruiser, and Captain Dave has made every charter feel like stepping into another world.

Before we glided across Lake Grapevine under sail, we enjoyed an incredible four-course dinner served in the cabin, complete with perfectly paired wine. Every course felt like something you’d expect in a fine restaurant rather than on the water. Later, we climbed back onto the deck for dessert as we sailed, admiring the Texas sky exploding into one of those unforgettable sunsets that remind you to slow down and simply take it all in.

Somewhere during that evening, I realized something.
I think I need to learn how to sail.
Maybe it’s the Florida girl in me, but I left feeling like I had rediscovered a piece of myself I didn’t realize I’d been missing.

And here’s something exciting for my photography clients…
Captain Dave welcomes professional photography sessions aboard the Fourth Watch! If you’ve been dreaming about romantic waterfront portraits, an engagement session, anniversary photos, or simply something that feels elegant and different, this is an incredible location. Imagine the warm glow of sunset, sails filled with wind, polished wood beneath your feet, and timeless images that feel like they belong on the coast—even though you’re right here in North Texas.
