A Mind at Home Among Books

A senior session at the Highland Park Library

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a senior session at Highland Park Library, a location that could not have been more perfect. The grounds are quietly stunning, with beautiful architectural details, winding pathways, ivy-covered hills, and garden spaces that feel both timeless and serene. Bridges tucked along the trails add a sense of discovery, making it feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

Inside, the atmosphere shifts into something even more striking. The library is rich with dark wood, shelves of worn and well-loved books, large oil paintings, and thoughtful artwork that invites reflection. Leather chairs, globes, maps, and softly lit corners create a space that feels almost literary in spirit, reminiscent of something out of a G.K. Chesterton world, where intellect and imagination meet.

The senior I photographed was a perfect match for this setting. A devoted reader and classically educated, he carries a depth of thought and discipline that is rare. His love for learning is evident.

There is something incredibly inspiring about personally knowing this young man who is not only intelligent, but also deeply studious and thoughtful. It was an honor to capture his pictures in a place that so beautifully reflects who he is.

This session was a reminder that sometimes the setting doesn’t just complement the subject—it reveals it.
